Editorial: Bush On Iraq-We Just Need a Few More Thousand Dead

Public support of the Iraq War and the President who had to have it has never been lower, prompting even the normally unshakable Bush to soften his position of apparently keeping American troops in Iraq indefinitely and making the country our nation’s greatest welfare case. The ultimate and apparent futility of our mission in Iraq must be so glaring now, even though to most of us it seems no more glaring than it was in 2006, 2005, and 2004, that the loyalist Republicans are finally, grudgingly, starting to defect from the Bush camp. Didn’t they do that already? you ask. Yes, but this time it might actually be in the form of votes on the floor of the Senate, rather than the usual meaningless sound bite.
